It's official! 'The Showstealer' Alex Shane will return to Morecambe for XWA War on the Shore VI on Saturday April 3...and this time, it's to wrestle one more match...
It was announced yesterday that Alex Shane will team up with Morecambe local hero Jynkz to take on Blond Jovi - Axl Rage and JD Sassoon - in a tag team showdown at the XWA's biggest show of the year. We've known for years that Alex Shane has his heart set on having one more match in Morecambe. On his last visit to the XWA, exactly 12 months ago at War on the Shore V (when he did not wrestle but made his presence felt in the match where Sam Slam defeated Martin Stone, with help from Johnny Phere, to drive 'The Guvnor' out of the XWA) Alex Shane told the Morecambe fans that he would love to wrestle in front of them just one more time. 'The Showstealer' last wrestled in Morecambe in October 2005. For the two years prior to that, 'The Showstealer' was a mainstay of Morecambe wrestling. It was Alex Shane - alongside Greg Lambert - who brought the Frontier Wrestling Alliance to Morecambe for the first time in 2003. It was Alex Shane who headlined the first ever War on the Shore against Raven in March 2005, which saw Morecambe put on the national wrestling map when the event was broadcast in its entirety on Sky TV. It was Alex Shane who reigned as British Heavyweight Champion for a full calendar year in 2005 and made most of his title defences in Morecambe. At that time, Alex Shane became something of a celebrity in the Morecambe area. The town is very close to his heart and he made a lot of friends there. Over the past year, Alex has made several return trips up to his beloved Morecambe in his capacity as head of British Wrestling's governing body, the British Wrestling Council. There he has worked closely with some of the XWA's brightest students at the XWA Wrestling Training Centre. And there, he met Jynkz. We understand that Alex rates Jynkz extremely highly and when he discovered that Jynkz was having problems with Blond Jovi, 'The Showstealer' personally requested to be his tag team partner on Saturday April 3. We now wonder if Axl Rage and JD Sassoon regret running their mouth in Jynkz's direction. We also wonder if Rage regrets his comment of last week that he's been trained by the best, including Alex Shane, but 'The Showstealer' is nothing as a mentor compared to the British Heavyweight Champion 'The RockStar' Spud. We have a feeling that Alex Shane heard this comment, and it got under his skin. Now Jynkz has got himself some back up, and it's back up in the shape of an angry 6 ft 6 in, 18 stone, two-time former British Heavyweight Champion. That's why 'The Showstealer' is coming to XWA War on the Shore VI on Saturday, April 3. How fitting that the man who was there at the start of it all at The Dome in 2003, will also be there when a new era dawns for the XWA at their brand new venue The Carleton. And as always where Alex Shane is concerned, you can bet he'll be there to steal the show!
