14/4/08 – LAST MAN STANDING

One match that is definitely signed for XWA Vendetta on Saturday July 5 is a rematch for the British Flyweight Title, when the champion ‘The UK Luchador’ El Ligero battles ‘The Pocket Dynamo’ Spud one more time, only this time in a Last Man Standing match.

Following their classic encounter at War On The Shore last Saturday, Spud issued the challenge for a Last Man Standing match and then was seen to storm out of The Dome before the show had finished. Clearly Spud was very disappointed at coming up short yet again in a challenge for the British Flyweight Title, a belt that he has never won despite several attempts dating back to the very first British Flyweight Title match when he lost to ‘The Bombay Dream’ Ross Jordan in Morecambe in July 2005.

However, in a rematch against Jordan 12 months later, Spud did gain revenge on the Bollywood star in Morecambe’s only previous Last Man Standing match at Last Fight at the Prom 2006. So perhaps the Brummie battler hopes the Last Man Standing stipulation – where the winner will be declared once his opponent fails to beat the count of 10 – will give him the edge against the popular Mexican, who made his second successful title defence on Saturday.

One thing’s for sure, if their thrilling match at The Anniversary Show is any yardstick, Ligero-Spud II will be a clash no XWA fan will want to miss!
